Cool photo and a wheel-y nice cycle way project by Booth Tarmacadam's commercial surfacing team at a new Ipswich development in Copdock Suffolk.
As paths go 3 metres across is pretty wide, but in this case the developer, Taylor Wimpy Homes wanted to incorporate space for cyclists as well as pedestrians.
Like many growing towns across East Anglia, Ipswich is seeing a boom in sizable developments of new homes within cycling access of a station. Even though many people have been working from home over recent months during the pandemic, cycling into work or as part of the daily commute is becoming increasingly popular.
At Booth Tarmacadam, we're proud to be involved in creating commercial surfaces to support sustainable transport initiatives like cycling and as one of Booth's directors, Larry, is particularly fitness-minded, we're really pleased to be involved in projects which encourage others to travel safely and grab a bit of exercise in the process.
If you watch 'swarms' of cyclists out and about, you'll have noticed that they usually have a leader - not the yellow jersey-style race leader perhaps, but one who points out potholes and imperfections in the road as they speed along.
When it comes to creating cycle ways and pedestrian paths across East Anglia, the Booth team take on that leadership role.
As in the case of this Copdock cycle way, the kerbs and tactile paving tend to already be in place when our Ipswich commercial tarmac surfacing team come on site.
For all paths for pedestrians and for cyclists who would be travelling at relative speed, it's hugely important that we ensure not only a smooth, hardwearing surface which is not going to succumb to indents, but also create the perfect knit around integrated paving and manhole or hydrant covers if they fall within the pathway.
